Headstart Hatching is seeking a Truck and Trailer Maintenance Technician/CDL Driver to join our team!  

We are looking for a versatile individual who can fulfill the dual role of maintaining our fleet of trucks and trailers while also operating them as needed. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent driving record, and a commitment to safety.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on trucks and trailers to ensure they are in optimal working condition.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to identify any mechanical issues or safety concerns.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical problems and perform necessary repairs in a timely manner.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed, including parts used and labor hours.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized maintenance shop.
  • Safely operate trucks and trailers to transport goods to designated locations as needed.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while driving and working in the maintenance shop.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers, supervisors, and other team members to coordinate maintenance schedules and transportation routes.
  • Pick-up, unload and safely transport day old poults & eggs
  • Responsible for loading truck
  • Within this process will be the expectation of consistent cleanliness, animal welfare standards and bio-security policies being upheld 
  • CDL Driver carries out all directives in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable laws
  • All Company information will be handled with complete confidentiality
  • Follow the directions of the Hatchery Manager
  • Fully understand how to operate and safely drive your assigned vehicle
  • Obtain signatures to confirm and complete deliveries
  • Stay on predetermined route and ensure timely transport and delivery
  • Confirm that the contents of each shipment load matches the manifest document
  • Notify managers of any major maintenance or delivery issues encountered
  • Maintain detailed driving and delivery logs
  • Obey all applicable traffic laws and drive in according to the weather/road conditions
  • Comply with DOT regulations
  • Make safety a priority at all times
The ideal candidate will have the following education, experience, and skills:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) required with proper endorsements
  • 2+ years proven experience in commercial truck driving preferred
  • Ability to operate a manual transmission (preferred)
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance and repairs of truck and trailers
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations
  • Proficient using GPS and other routing systems; Map reading and route planning experience
  • Skilled at driving, backing and parking large, heavy vehicles
  • Communication skills to effectively work with a variety of people, supervisors, employees and departments
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • General skills using MS products (i.e., Word, Excel, and Outlook) and a basic understanding of computer hardware
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical problems efficiently

Other:
  • Clean driving record with no moving violations
  • Must pass background check, MVR check, pre-employment drug test and PSP background check
  • Experience with live animals, egg handling, or feed transport preferred
